The Borgata Hotel and Casino is a full service casino resort located in Atlantic City, NJ.  They run the heating systems for the entire facility on a High Temperature Hot Water loop provided by the nearby Marina Energy Thermal Facility.  When an expansion joint in the 36” HTHW loop failed, the facility was left without heat and hot water going into one of the coldest weeks of the year.  Powerhouse received the call near midnight Sunday and was on-site within 6 hours to help coordinate the response effort.  Powerhouse was able to deliver an 800 HP Trailer Mounted Boiler, along with a heat exchanger, HTHW circulation system, boiler feedwater system and 10,000 gallon oil tank as well as an additional 250 HP Portable Boiler Room with a heat exchanger and circulation system to begin assembly of two completely self sufficient steam plants by Monday afternoon.  Powerhouse personnel stayed at site around the clock to help install, operate and maintain the units until the damaged piping was repaired and placed back on line.

The National Institute on Aging facility in Baltimore, MD was beginning a project to retube all three of their existing boilers.  During the process, a critical defect was found and the units were taken off line immediately.  Being home to much research and experimentation, the facility needed steam IMMEDIATELY.  Powerhouse was contacted and arrived within hours with an 800 HP Portable Boiler Room.  The unit was installed and two more were delivered shortly thereafter, in order to handle the full steam load of the facility.  Powerhouse’s units continue to provide the full steam load for the facility and will continue to do so until the facility’s boiler room is completely renovated.

When a recent emergency need for boilers came up at a Darwin, Australia LNG plant, following a failure of some of the on-site boilers, Powerhouse Equipment was called upon to provide two 75,000 PPH boilers to keep the site up and running. Powerhouse was able to supply two units, quickly and the customer opted, due to the emergency conditions, to air freight the 100 ton load rather than wait for the transit time of a ship. Powerhouse also assisted with the customs regulations, cleaning, fumigation for export and modifications to the units to make them suitable for use in Australia and for air freight to the site.

Upon arrival of the equipment at site, Powerhouse provided installation assistance and sent a team of technicians to the site for over 2 months to commission the units and train the site personnel on the safe and efficient operation of the boilers.

As part of the steel degasification process, high pressure steam is required to produce the high quality steel manufactured at the Steelton, PA plant on the bank of the Susquehanna River.  Powerhouse recently supplied a 75,000 PPH boiler for rental.  The rental unit replaced a 500,000 PPH boiler that was obviously oversized for the application, but was the smallest unit available at that plant.  The cost savings on fuel were so drastic that ISG opted to purchase the unit after only a couple of months’ rental.  In fact, the fuel savings alone have paid for the new boiler numerous times over since the inception of this project.

As part of a bid project to the United State Coast Guard, Kodiak, AK base, Powerhouse provided a custom built portable boiler room.  Due to the remote nature of the jobsite and the unique climactic requirements of the region, Powerhouse made numerous deviations from the our normal system.  For example, the availability of electric power is limited, such that Powerhouse supplied a diesel powered generator inside the container as a part of the system.

We also provided numerous heat recovery equipment and specialized insulation to maintain the maximum possible fuel efficiency and heat retention, as well as complex instrumentation to record and maintain the daily operation from a remote location on base. 

As part of a bid project for the United States Air Force at Peterson AFB, Powerhouse provided a custom built portable / semi-stationary boiler room.  Due to the specific requirements of the application, we designed a system capable of providing heating hot water to either one or two locations in the vicinity.  By supplying two separate boilers inside the container with a common header and an engineered valving system, the site can use this system to handle almost any heating load on the base and in many cases, two loads at once.  This unit was also designed to be removed from the chassis and made semi-stationary for longer term applications, at the request of the site.

As part of a project in conjunction with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), Powerhouse provided a custom designed system capable of providing steam, heating hot water and domestic hot water.  Through the use of two separate boilers, the site is able to efficiently use this system for both small and large loads and can handle almost any individual facility on the base.  This unit was also designed to be removed from the chassis and made semi-stationary for longer term applications, at the suggestion of Powerhouse Equipment. 

CBG is the largest single bauxite producer in the world today.  It is located in the town of Kamsar in the Republic of Guinea.  Through a joint operation agreement, the mine and the nearby processing plant is operated by Alcoa and owned by a partnership of Halco and the Government of Guinea.  When the site required a new boiler for its drying operation Powerhouse supplied a rental unit that the site opted to purchase after finding how much more efficient they were with the newer boiler.

Despite a language barrier, Powerhouse also sent a technician to site to commission the unit and to train the local operators on the use and maintenance of the unit.  The site has since purchased two more units and Powerhouse provides annual service and re-training at the site.

When the plant was reconfigured, the new process at the site no longer had the large demand for steam that the former configuration required. In fact, steam was only required in two areas of the plant and those loads were very small compared to output of the existing boiler house. The site opted to install two portable boiler rooms, one at each area of the plant requiring the steam and have been renting on an annually renewing contract for a number of years. They were able to shutter the existing boiler house resulting in vast fuel savings that have more than paid for the rental boilers.

When a small asphalt refinery, formerly owned by Citgo, was reopened a couple of years ago, the new owners found that much of the existing equipment was in poor disrepair.  Hoping to begin operations quickly, the site contacted Powerhouse about supplying reconditioned boilers, rather than waiting through the lead time of a new unit. 

Powerhouse provided two matching Cleaver Brooks 50,000 PPH skid mounted watertube boilers for purchase and arranged freight for the over-width, over-weight and over-height loads from our Delanco, NJ facility to the site in Lake Charles, LA. 

During some recent repairs to the steam lines on the New York University campus, Powerhouse worked in conjunction with a number of contractors to provide steam to the university facilities while service was otherwise down.  We provided a number of portable boiler rooms in varying sizes to multiple locations on and near the Manhattan campus.  Powerhouse was able to provide all of the required units quickly and helped the university avoid costly student relocation and the loss of highly sensitive scientific research which depended on the steam heat to keep constant conditions. 

Powerhouse is currently in the process of building a custom designed portable boiler room for a gold mine being expanded in the Dominican Republic. The site has limited utilities available and Powerhouse is providing such equipment as a reverse osmosis water treatment system as a part of the package to insure that the boiler is able to operate safely and efficiently, even in the face of less than ideal conditions.
